Omaha Poker

Omaha Poker, like Texas Holdem is a community card game. "Community cards" (also called board cards) are cards which are dealt face up in the middle of the table and which may be used by all players in conjunction with their hole cards to make a five card poker hand.

In a game of Omaha Poker, each player is dealt four hole cards (cards for the player's eyes only) and the player must then use precisely two cards from their hand and three cards from the board to make a Hand.

Before any cards have been dealt, the "blinds" are posted. The blinds are bets made by the two players positioned immediately to the left of the dealer. The player to the immediate left of the dealer posts the small blind and the player to the left of the small blind posts the big blind. The blinds are to be posted before any cards are dealt in order to help get the betting underway.

Rules of Omaha

All the standard Texas Holdem rules also apply to Omaha except the rule on playing the board, which is not possible in Omaha (you must use two cards from your hand and three cards from the board).

Omaha High Low

Omaha is often played high-low split, 8-or-better. The player may use any combination of two holecards and three boardcards for the high hand and another (or the same) combination of two holecards and three boardcards for the low hand.

Rules of Omaha High Low

All the standard rules of Omaha apply to Omaha high-low split except the following: a qualifier of 8-or-better for low applies to all high-low split games, unless a posting to the contrary is displayed. If there is no qualifying hand for low, the best high hand wins the whole pot.

Key to remember

An Omaha Poker hand must comprise of precisely two hole cards and three board cards.
